CEDOVIP in partnership with the Human Rights Center at the Berkeley Law School, University of California, United States of America with support from UN Women and Embassy of Sweden have embarked on the process developing a handbook on investigation, prosecution and adjudication of sexual and Gender based violence in both development and humanitarian settings.

The handbook aims at providing both legal and procedural guidelines for duty bearers responding to SGBV within the criminal justice system to ensure that they meet internationally acceptable standards and are survivor centered to ensure access to justice for women and girls as a way of ending impunity to violence against women crimes.

The handbook will provide sector specific guidelines for investigations, prosecution, adjudication and post trial support services for survivors of VAWG.

The handbook is developed in collaboration with Office of the Director of Public Prosecution, Judiciary, Uganda Police force, Uganda People’s Defence Forces, Regional Training Facility under Ministry of Gender, Labor and Social development and Ministry of Health who constitute the working committee. The committee provides technical guidance on the necessary legal and procedural practices within their key sectors in responding to SGBV within the criminal justice system.

The process of the development of the handbook which started in August 2018 is ongoing until June 2019 when a finalized copy is expected to be launched
